David Kuijers
(1962 – )
David Kuijers was born in 1962 in Vanderbijlpark, near Johannesburg. He is of Dutch immigrant parents and is a South African painter. He began studying Graphic Design at the Cape Technikon in 1987. There he majored in illustration and received the top student award upon graduating. In 1990 he married a fellow student at the Technikon, Dina. After he finished studying he freelanced as a designer/illustrator, yet did not enjoy the restrictions that the job imposed on him. During these years of working he had some success as an artist but not enough to ensure a living. He was able to do some large commissions, and together with his sell-out first exhibition enabled him to paint full-time from 1999 onwards.
Kuijers regularly takes part in group exhibitions and has completed various commissions, mostly acrylic seascapes for the new President Hotel and watercolours for the Villa Via Hotel and the Volks Hospital. He now lives in Greyton in the Western Cape with his wife, daughter and two sons, where he owns his own art studio.
Kuijers’ work incorporates clean cut lines and vibrant colours, is considered well known throughout Cape Town.
Some notable commissions included:
The President Hotel; Sea Point
The Radisson Hotel; Granger Bay
Constantia Medi Clinic
Tiger Brand Food Head Offices
Dole Export

Da Vinci Hotel, Johannesburg
In 2002 a book, entitled ‘David Kuijers Paints the Town’ was published in Cape Town. And in 2004 He worked with British Publishers, DeMontford Fine Art and was included in their Ultimate Collection that year.
